News - 2004

In 2004, we worked hard to present Gleanntan Skyes to a high standard in the conformation ring. We attended quite a few shows, including regional and national Skye specialties and Skye Terrier Club of America supported entry shows. We feel that it is important to place our Skyes in the competitive arena where their merits can be evaluated. Equally important to us is the fact that the shows provide an optimal opportunity for expanding knowledge by talking to breeders and watching other breeds.

Our two leading Skyes in 2004 were Ch. Gleanntan Gotitxactlyrite - "Arnie", professionally handled by Lisa and Mark Bettis, and Ch. Gleanntan Going South - "Rebel", owner/handled by Michael Pesare.

  • Ch. Gleanntan Gotitxactlyrite - "Arnie" (Ch. Mariquita Flashxclusive x Ch. Gleanntan Great Day O'Pataway), the #1 Skye Terrier in 2003, continued his success in the ring in 2004. He earned 48 group placements including 13 Group Firsts. Arnie completed the year as the #1 Skye Terrier (group points) in the U.S.

  • Ch. Gleanntan Going South - "Rebel" (Ch. Gleanntan Greatxplorer x Ch. Gleanntan Goldminersdaughter) was the Best of Breed winner at the Potomac Skye Terrier Club Specialty in April and took Best of Breed at the Columbiana County Kennel Club show (STCA Supported Entry) both with large Skye entries. Always owner/handled, Rebel earned 13 group placements, including two Group 1 wins. He completed the year as the #2 Skye (breed points) and #4 Skye (group points).

We are also proud of the following Gleanntan youngsters coming along in 2004 -

  • Gleanntan Gettin' Busy - "Ellie" (Ch. Gleanntan Greatxplorer x Ch. Gleanntan Gee Whiz) took a 3-point major and a 5-point major at the STCA Supported Entry shows in Canfield, Ohio in August to complete her AKC championship.

  • Gleanntan Pot Of Gold - "Midas" (Ch. Gleanntan Gee Whillikers x Ch. Gleanntan Grandxpose) took Winners Dog and Best of Winners from the Bred by Exhibitor class at the STCA National Specialty/Montgomery County KC in October.

  • Gleanntan Graceunderpressure, CGC - "Gracie" (Ch. Gleanntan Greatxplorer x Ch. Sonsie Aida) earned Best of Winners (Thursday), Winners Bitch (Friday) and Reserve Winners Bitch from the Bred by Exhibitor class at the STCA National Specialty weekend in October.

  • Gleanntan Grand Musicmaker - "DJ"  (Ch. Gleanntan Greatxplorer x Ch. Sonsie Aida) was shown with much success in Denmark by owner Tina Toft Andersen. One of the highlights of his year was taking Best of Breed at The Bundessieger Show - 2004 which is one of the biggest International shows in Europe.

Finally, a new generation of Gleanntan Skyes was born on August 19 (6 bitches and 3 dogs) sired by Ch. Gleanntan Going For It - "Reggie" out of Ch. Gleanntan Grandxpose - "Emily". We are very pleased with the puppies and look forward to bringing them out in 2005.

December 13

Ch. Gleanntan Gotitxactlyrite - "Arnie" took Best of Breed at the Medina Kennel Club show and the Western Reserve Kennel Club show this past weekend in Cleveland, Ohio. The judge at the Medina County KC show was breeder/judge Sandra Goose Allen and the judge at the Western Reserve KC show was Larry Adams. Gleanntan Pot Of Gold was shown on Saturday and Sunday - he took Best of Winners on Saturday and Winner Dog on Sunday, though no points were available.

We are saddened by the loss of Roxan's beloved "Maggie" - Ch. Gleanntan Gottaluvme who passed away in her sleep over the weekend. She was 12 and a half years old. Maggie embodied everything that we strive for and admire in Skye breed type.

Keeleigh has done quite a bit of traveling in her young life. But, this was her first time flying. She will be doing quite a bit of flying in Gary's plane as well as Lynn's restored Luscombe. Our best wishes to Gary, Lynn, and Keeleigh.

October 4 - Montgomery County KC - STCA National Specialty Weekend

The National Specialty/Montgomery County Kennel Club weekend is always very special. The four days of shows, provide opportunities to present your Skyes to a knowledgeable audience of terrier fanciers and fellow Skye breeders/exhibitors. The shows also provide limitless opportunities for learning and a sharing of knowledge. Old friendships are renewed and new friendships are forged. For us, this weekend had it all - fun, friendship, learning, and competition.

Gracie's win at Montgomery retired The Bonnie Victoria Trophy. This perpetual trophy was established in 1997 by the friends of Jean N. Culver, Wynn Mishoe, and Yvonne Simmons in memory of Runnymeade Bonnie Victoria. The trophy was offered to recognize the breeder of the Bred by Exhibitor bitch winner at the Montgomery County KC - STCA National Specialty. The trophy would be retired when it was won three times by identical breeders, not necessarily with the same dog, nor at consecutive shows. Retiring this trophy holds special meaning to us as the first leg was won in 1998, by Donna Dale showing her beloved "Emily" (Ch. Gleanntan Grandxpose). The second leg was won in 2003, when Michael handled Ch. Gleanntan Stargazer Lily to a Bred by bitch class win enroute to Winners Bitch. The third leg was won this year when Gleanntan Graceunderpressure won the Bred by bitch class enroute to Reserve Winners Bitch.

Gleanntan Pot Of Gold - owned by Joe and Ginger Lindsey & Gleanntan

  • Winners Dog & Best of Winners (4 point major) from the 12-18 month class - Montgomery County KC - Skye Terrier Club of America National Specialty under breeder judge Olga Smid, Olivia Skyes. Midas was only shown one day (MCKC - Sunday). This was only his fourth show and the first time that I had an the opportunity to work with Midas. Midas was handled to Winners Dog by Michael and to Best of Winners by Ben.

Gleanntan cofounder, Ben Dale, handling Gleanntan Pot Of Gold to Best of Winners at the Skye Terrier Club of America National Specialty - Montgomery County KC under breeder/judge Olga Smid. Midas took Winners Dog earlier from the 12 to 18 month class.

I like this photo of Gleanntan Pot Of Gold. It illustrates his superb reach and drive as well as his level topline on the move.
